Vera Wang: Web Master
The most dramatic jewelry of the Spring 2010 collections is, without a doubt, Vera Wang’s spider-web statement necklace. Beads glistening like dew on a web, her large asymmetrical bib is a bit goth, a bit rock-and-roll, and a bit Victorian naturalist, with large beaded insects perched at the shoulder. Like many of this season’s styles, they embody decayed elegance. The closure is a ribbon tie, another strong trend (ribbons wrapped around wrists and secured with a pin are the latest take on the cuff bracelet too.)
Despite the drama of the statement necklaces on Spring runways, most undercut their large scale with bohemian understatement . Bold, yes, but these styles also have a surprising versatility. Just throw one on over a black sheath or layer over a t-shirt and under a sweater and you’re done. For recessionistas everywhere, the best approach to the season may be to focus on shoes and one of these necklaces to transform everything in your wardrobe.
But is this even for sale? Where? Or is it all going to be shabby knockoffs and copies?
Well, Saks Fifth Avenue has Vera Wang jewelry from the fall collection now, including some beaded pieces like this: http://bit.ly/RYg0M. I would think they will carry this necklace or maybe a smaller scale version. But I think you are right: we will definitely see some shabby knockoffs!
